Which frontend js for small projects? Is Angularjs still relevant?

So I am starting a new project for a tiny firm to manage their expenses and income. Since I'm using CodeIgniter for all such small projects I decided to stick with it.

But the app has lot of UI processing and I want to use a frontend JS framework. Since I know Angularjs, I want to use it. But I would like to get some expert opinion to see if I can use Angularjs in current context? Is there any better, simpler alternative? (Not Vue.js, it's completely different and React is just view part).
