Today I signed up for Hashnode and got welcome email by none other than the co-founder himself and the subject of the mail was "We are Quora, but for coders!", when did Quora became generic name for asking questions or seeking information on internet? Even if it did then why make your brand a subset of your competitor? For eg. Surf by Unilever used to be a generic brand in India till recently where consumer used to ask for surf and then buy different washing powder brand but that didn't make P&G to project Ariel as Surf! Same is with Bisleri in India a brand that became generic but did Aquafina positioned itself as Bisleri but for different consumer base? And in both the cases with change in generation consumer has started using word like washing powder instead of Surf and mineral water instead of using Bisleri. As brand is owned by the owner but it lives in consumer/users' mind so if you want to create a brand then better create a differentiation in your head first otherwise you will end up being a copy than being an original!

I know this is a platform regarding coding and for coders but even coders need to know the power of branding.
