I had a friend raise an interesting question.

I had a friend raise an interesting question. 

"Should I pay $5000 for an intensive 12-month boot camp which makes me hireable for junior positions or should I pay 100k in student debts to get a degree and  learn aging tech with hopes of landing a job thanks to a degree?"

Well as far as degrees and jobs are concerned we have to admit that the curriculum taught in colleges is outdated. But it&#39;s also true that academia was never related to getting a job, it&#39;s an outcome based mindset which led to the thinking that degrees give jobs. If a degree is affordable and is possible then its good option. Not only CS degrees but you can go for any relevant engineering degree, for example I am currently studying civil engineering, the oldest discipline of engineering. Programming and coding are nowhere related to it, but still I am
 Learning it through on my own by online courses and books. Bootcamps are only good for complete newbies, if you have been learning for a time, and you understand iteration and switch case statements then boot camps can be sort of useless.

Should newcomers favor boot camps over universities?
