Hi guys! Hope you are staying safe? It's another week of endless opportunities and possibilities. Today I will be talking about Zuri internship program and my experiences in the program so far.
Few weeks ago, I was casually going through my LinkedIn feed when I stumbled upon a post by a connection of mine about the internship. Then, still going through the rigorous experience of my former internship programme (SideHustle), I decided to sign up for the next cohort of the Zuri internship programme. You can imagine my joy when after more than a month I got my invitation email to officially join the programme.
HNG/Zuri Internship is a long running, large scale virtual internship for people learning to code and design. It focuses on the post-training phase, and creates a virtual work environment for participants. The Internship is designed to surface the very best of candidates out of a large pool of participants. It is fast paced and challenging, and helps people learn how to work in teams, deal with pressure and quickly expand their knowledge. You can check them out here: [zuri.team].
My experience in the programme have been great so far. I registered for the frontend track of the programme. The programme is kind of fast paced which is a new challenge since I kinda like to take my time in whatever am doing but I love challenges so we'll see how it goes. The interns get to meet new peers and network together. I even got to meet some of my old colleagues from my former internship. I got exposed to the use of the networking/workspace app, Slack (my first time using the app) and the app experience has been wonderful. I hope to meet new friends, network more and be a better web developer by the time I am through with the programme.
With the fast paced nature of the internship programme, interns are encouraged to learn on their own, ask questions and receive answers from mentors and their fellow more experienced colleagues. Recommended mediums for learning includes YouTube, Udemy, Cousera, Pluralsight etc. In the frontend web development track, we started with HTML/CSS, then proceeded to JavaScript, then CSS frameworks (Bootstrap/Tailwind/Bulma/Materialize), then JavaScript frameworks (React/Vue/Angular) before version control systems like Got are learnt. The links to some of my favorite tutorials are: • HTML/CSS: [m.youtube.com/watch?v=mU6anWqZJcc]. • JavaScript: [m.youtube.com/watch?v=PkZNo7MFNFg]. • Git: [m.youtube.com/watch?v=SWYqp7iY_Tc&t=7s]. • Figma: [m.youtube.com/watch?v=3q3FV65ZrUs].
The programme is scheduled to last for about 8 weeks and I hope to be able to improve myself more before the end of the programme.
Ciao!
