Hey! Hope you all are keeping safe. This is my first foray into the world of blogging. Hope it turns out right!

The world of tech is an encompassing world of subfields which include web development, game development, machine learning etc. The field of web development is a field which involves the design and development of websites for the web and intranet.

There are many reasons why people learn IT skills which might include the following: financial freedom, employment benefits etc. There are many routes to take when learning an IT skill which include the following: self taught, bootcamp/community learning, internships etc.

I started my web development journey around 2018 during my final year in school. I learnt HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, Sass, JQuery, JavaScript. I did a lot of mini projects and had a lot of unfinished ones too! (The newbie web developer cliché).

I enrolled for my first ever internship program (SideHustle internship 3.0) 2 weeks ago. SideHustle is a tech startup based in Lagos, Nigeria. The internship is a 4-week program. The aim of the internship is to equip young lads with tech skills which can sustain them in the near future. The program has many subprograms/tracks but I registered for the front-end web development track.

In the first week of the program, basic web terminologies and HTML5 were taught to the front-end web development interns. Social development environments like [codepen.io] were also introduced. At the end of the first week, a quiz and task was handed to the interns. The task involves the creation of a tribute HTML5 page with 20 or more HTML tags. My task solution for week 1 can be found here: [codepen.io/Ezeani1995/full/ZEeNmrJ].

In the second week of the program, CSS3 and version control systems like Github were taught to the front-end web development interns. At the end of the week, a quiz and task were handed out to the interns. The task involves the design, implementation and hosting of a challenge from [frontendmentor.io]. The task was solved with the help of HTML5 and CSS3 properties like color, fonts, background, flexbox, CSS3 grid system and media queries for responsiveness. My task solution for week 2 can be found here: [fylo-dark-theme-design-by-ezeani-anthony.n…].

The experience has been immense. On a personal note, I got my feet wet with the introduction to the world of open source and collaboration. The interns get to network and collaborate with one another. And did I forget? There's a Bootcamp phase! There, the interns get to build real world solutions and be part of something meaningful!

I will be keeping you guys up to date with my experience in the program.

Ciao!
