Introducing Dev Library: Google’s new platform to publish your tech projects!
I have been a writer all my life. But when recently I dived into Technical writing, I had my own share of agony with the developers. Developers or Engineers have a crucial role while giving information about a tech stack in use or product in making. But the documents somehow would never have enough information in a planned way.
Cut down to today, we have so many developers actually owning the art of writing well. So many blogs and projects all around. This is what excited our team head Sebastian thought which gave birth to Dev Library.
What is the Dev Library?
An open-source library of articles and projects built using Google Technologies. Isn’t it great? Google definitely has courses, extensive documentation, or study material for every technology. But we realised, a lot of open-source projects built do not have a proper visibility. So, our platform could act as a one-stop for anyone looking for hero content to understand, learn, or integrate these tech projects.
Our Process?
You submit your work using this Google form (Don’t worry, we are integrating a better system here by the month end). Once submitted, you will have to wait for 2-4 weeks. Our curators (internal Google developers) will go through it and select or reject the work. We display your content immediately after curation. And Tada! You have something to brag about post selection!
Projects we like to take in Two things:
- Open-source
- Built using any Google Tech (Android, Angular, Firebase, Flutter, Machine Learning, Google Assistant)
Now, if you believe in your work and see it as an epitome of change and uniqueness, go ahead and submit!
Perks
Well, we have not been completely up for a plethora of perks but definitely some of them include:
- Visibility on a Google Platform: I mean nothing can beat this!
Badges: Recently, we launched ‘I am a Dev Library contributor’ badge to let you shine it on your Google Developers Site.
Social Media Brag: Recently, some of our contributors shared it on Twitter and LinkedIn, received a great response and pride
- Newsletter recognition: You could wait for our monthly newsletters and look out for some star projects and articles.
Coming soon..
A few competitions: Watch out for some amazing developer writing competitions
Swags
Workshops: Coming up with a few student communities to make a grand impact in the community
Purpose?
Apart from having this one library, we want to also bring more and more people trying out Google technologies. Try building something using your favorite tech stack. Also, present it in a readable format.
Isn’t it exciting? A digital library! Try it out. Read some stuff. Submit your own work. Contact me for any queries. And yes! We are on our way to change the UI and you will have a better interface the next time you login. But until then keep creating and submitting stuff!
