How can we learn the internal workings of Vue?

I love Vue and have been learning it for the past six months, sadly the only thing I have been able to contribute was a simple typo fix. I really want to learn how vuejs works under the hood to contribute or better yet understand it completely.

So, my question is: Do you have any advice on how we can learn about it to contribute to the source?
