"Hello World" I became a junior developer in 30 days. Being a participant of #Devc30Days of code was a great step I took as a Visual designer, so I could boost my skill, expand my knowledge in the tech world, and be more relevant.

Introducing DevCUyo

If you are wondering what DevC30Dayof Code is, it is a program that is run by Edidiong Asikpo on Facebook developer Circle (Uyo). This program helps to engage and groom beginners to expect in tech. I joined Facebook Developers Circles in January 2019, when I participated in the 100 Days of Code Challenge, and of course, I took on design Challenge not coding and I made it to the end of the challenge. A week before the 30 days challenge being, I had taken my first step by asking a member of the Developers Circle Nzaki Michael Ekere to mentor me as a beginner on HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Experience

It has been two years now since I started a skill in graphics and UI design. so in the long run, I began to see the need to learn to code because I wanted to improve my UX skills and also add to my existing skill. I had a great experience in my quest to become a frontend developer. After applying to take part in the Challenge, I got my first mail from the DevC team, (You’ve received this email because you indicated interested to learn HTML and CSS during the #DevC30DaysOfCode challenge.

We have a special learning plan for everyone who took up HTML and CSS. To access this follow the steps below: Create an account on FreeCodeCamp, Navigate to freecodecamp.org/learn, Click on the Responsive Web Design course. Ensure that you complete at least 7 classes every single day. Doing this will ensure that you finish the entire course and build 5 projects with HTML and CSS in 30 days). The recommended learning platform was Pluralsight and FreeCodeCamp which I used effectively, before the end of the challenge I was able to complete HTML and CSS on the platform. What kept me moving is the daily quote sent via mail and on Facebook to give the participants strength to keep going, I have been on the list of top three participants and won a one-month data subscription twice which was a price to help me know that I can do this till the end, also among the top ten contributors once before the end of the challenge. I started my project with a COVID-19 information website, in my learning process worked on my portfolio website with HTML and CSS using the last five days of the challenge.

Challenges

The Challenges I encountered on accepting this 30 days challenge was having to stop designing for a while, so I could focus more and learn fast. Firstly the program started in the COVID-19 pandemic, during the lockdown, having to stay at home to learn, lack of electricity, and internet connection.

Conclusion

With the help of the Facebook developers circle, my quest for being a frontend developer became easy and achievable. I won't stop here, I will continue to push further because I believe in this saying " learn my yesterday to Teach my tomorrow". I am super happy to be a participant of #DevC30DaysofCodeChallenge.
