Automating a Django deployment: recommended tools and tips?

I'm about to deploy a Django project onto a dedicated server. After reading quite a bit of info on solutions that seem out of date (chef/puppet), and other new-ish solutions waiting to get their battle scars (docker), I would like to hear from anyone who has insight into a relatively recent Django deployment.
