I will have to remove some personal information from the notes, so it will take some time, but yes, I plan on sharing the Notion template in the future.

Very useful article. Your way of organising all the info is creative and simple. Thanks for the inspiration to improve my own Notion commonplace! For when you want a more structured way of organising some particular topics, like in your "topics and roadmap" sections, Obsidian knowledge base is an amazing tool. Basically, it allows you to create interlinked markdown notes that you can later visualise in a mind-map-like graph. From within Notion you can link to your Obsidian knowledge base, making it easy to separate more structured info from the commonplace, which could be more focused in storing ideas, concepts, bookmarks, or any bits of unstructured info

I just heard about Notion, so this article was very timely. I've been using OneNote for years. I grew up on paperback notebooks/journals before the internet became the reality it is today. Great write-up!

Great article, I too have tried the physical book, iPad and pencil, comments, and notion.

Writing all the code physically, I felt I was wasting too much time and can't see the output. With iPad and pencil, I never felt them be satisfying

Comments were a great alternative but it was tough to organise, Finally stuck to the notion as it's easy to organise, link different sheets and add code snippets.

I think it doesn't really matter what app you use, as long as you are taking notes (and re-reading them later). Apps are just tools that we can use in our programming journey.

Β·

Dec 9, 2021

Damian Demasi With that i meant the way we manipulate data types (e.g: str.slice(), str.split(), arr.push(),etc.) so that you don't forget about them. But now that you mention it, is it useful to take notes about programming paradigms too?

Omg! I literally created my own Notion and Craft syllabus and database to map out my learning plans for Full Stack Software Development. I have over 300+ resources in the database as well. And, dozens of checklists that cover several important topics. I tried to prioritize topics that are necessary for my knowledge. It’s coming along very well and there’s enough information and organization at this point that I can begin my journey and I’m ready to do so.. especially because creating this database & plan took up a lot of my time! I always felt that it was necessary to create a plan because self-teaching is otherwise messy and can be left untracked so how would I be able to measure my progress?

Anyways, I know this is a long comment - but I really just wanted to know how long did it take for you to compile this? Has it helped you stay focused in your learning journey? And lastly, do you think being organized led to your job offer?

I find many similarities between how you do things and how I do things so that’s why I’m so curious about so many things. I’d love to hear your response! Thank you so much for sharing- maybe I’ll share my system on my blog as well!

Thanks for your comment, Aniqa!

Re your questions:

I compiled this from day 1: as soon as I learned something new (a technology, a good practice, a new path, etc.) I put it on the notes. But I didn't stop there. I'm currently using it and growing it. Is like having a second brain.

It has helped me a lot to stay focused, and to have easy and fast access to the most important topics (that I often forget).

Staying organised didn't directly lead to a job offer, but it allowed me to manage my knowledge. I often find myself forgetting important concepts, so, as I know they are in my notes, I can go back to them easily. This, for sure, helps me in my day job.

I would love to see your system!
