Nice and I agree 100%. In my exp having a direction has helped focus my efforts. Sometimes it's tempting to try the latest fad but once a goal is set, it's far better to stick to that.

Wise words, thank you for writing this article. I have a day job, but a few months ago the bug bit me to get back into coding. I've decided to focus on Rust and do it well. My endgame is to have the ability to build a variety of things and tools. Rust can do it all, so that is what my focus will be.

All great points especially number 3. Without a roadmap you won't really know why you are learning a programming language and what apps you can build with it.
